The September newsletter celebrates the opening of the newly restored Pavilion Studio, marking a major milestone in the Trust’s efforts to bring the Pavilion back into community use.

Pavilion Studio Opens

The Pavilion Studio officially opened on 21 August, welcoming around 50 invited guests to see the transformation. The fully accessible venue is now available for hire, with Chichester Festival Theatre already running successful acting workshops and planning further sessions. The Pavilion Craft Group will also be holding regular meetings, and local community groups can benefit from an introductory booking discount until the end of 2026.

Community Engagement

The first open morning attracted 45 visitors, who praised the newly restored space and enjoyed viewing the vintage film posters. Another open morning is planned for 3 October. The Trust also received a £300 donation from Chaplin’s Coffee House following its first anniversary celebrations.

Vintage Film Posters and Fundraising

The Trust continues to conserve and display its collection of vintage film posters, with further sponsorship opportunities available. A newly acquired poster commemorates the 75th anniversary of The Dam Busters, a film with strong connections to Selsey through composer Eric Coates and screenwriter R. C. Sherriff.

Supporters can contribute towards conservation costs, donate through the Trust’s online fundraising page or support the Trust through the Co-op Local Community Fund. Gift Aid is also available for eligible donations.

Glancing Backwards

This month’s historical feature looks back at The Dam Busters, released in 1955, and its connection to Selsey. The film tells the story of the 1943 raid on German dams, featuring Richard Todd and Michael Redgrave. The newsletter includes a contemporary review from the Bognor Regis Observer dated 28 September 1956.
