Film Preview – Chichester Observer – Saturday, 02 October 1948
Transcript:

PAVILION, SELSEY. From an apparently slow beginning, “UNDERCURRENT” builds up to a terrific climax. Starring Katherine Hepburn and Robert Taylor, this film, to be shown on Monday for three days, must be seen from the beginning. The story of the strange marriage of two incompatibles forms the basis of a triangle of melodrama, and gives a feeling of being alive. On Thursday, for three days, Ronald Colman makes a welcome return as Sydney Carton in M.G.M.’s “A TALE OF TWO CITIES." Centred around the French Revolution, the story concerns events in the lives of a little group of people in London and Paris during the years 1765—1793. Lucie Manette (Elizabeth Allan) provides the one good influence in Sidney Carton's life, and it is for her sake he goes willingly to a hideous death. Both shows have a full supporting programme.
