They return to break the news to her parents. Mrs. Purves is surprised, but being a placid person, decides she likes young Tony and pledges her support when the news is broken to her husband. Mr. Purves returns home to find his daughter in the arms of a strange young man. He listens patiently to Tony when he asks permission to marry Anne. He asks the normal father-in-law questions and receives far from satisfactory replies. However, he tells Tony to see him again when he finds a fiat and a job.
