SELSEY PANTOMIME SPARKLES ALL THE WAY. All the colour and fantasy of a traditional pantomime was brought to Sesley by the S.C.A.M.P.S. (Selsey Comedy and Musical Productions Company) with its excellent production of "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Pavilion Cinema on Saturday. It was Barry Lindsay's first experience as a producer, and he must be congratulated on the outstanding success of his production. It sparkled with an infectious gaiety which delighted the audience. He also appeared in the dame's role of Queen Cabana, acting the part with great confidence and setting a cracking pace for the whole show which was well supported by the rest of the company. The sets were well designed and executed by John Coe, making an excellent background for the attractive costumes designed and made by Phyllis May, helped by Laura Stacey. The high standard of music was set by the delightful singing of the song from the overture to Edward German's "Princess of Kensington" played by Jane Stanton, who played the role of the good fairy, Day Flower. Elizabeth Hellings and Beryl Lindsay, as Prince Gerard and Princess Coralie, made a charming couple, and Terry Warboys, as Jack Pot, was excellent, especially in his scenes with Jock and Fancy, Eric Adams and Ted Woolgar. Muriel Browning, as the wicked fairy, Night Shade, gave a very good performance enhanced by her miming and graceful movements. A money raising effort in aid of Oxfam will be held at each of the performances this week, which will be continued from Wednesday onwards.
