Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1920-1929
Sunday Pictures at Bognor and Selsey. The question of permitting Sunday evening kinema performances at the Pavilion, Selsey, was raised at the sitting of the Chichester County Bench to-day, over which Major P. K. Leith presided. Mr C B. Tompkins applied behalf of the manager, Mr. P. W. Phipps for the renewal of the theatre and kinematograph licences held in respect to the place named, also asking that the latter licence should be made to cover Sunday performances, after Supt. Brett said he had no objection, declaring that the opening of the kinemas at Bognor on Sunday evenings had been a boon to the police. Young people who had nothing to do were often a source of annoyance, and there had been great improvement from this point of view on Bognor Esplanade. The Bench renewed the theatre licence, but adjourned the other question for a fortnight, in case anyone wished to raise formal objection to the proposal.
