British Legion. In aid of the funds of the local branch of the British Legion, a highly successful whist drive was held on Thursday last, and congratulations as a result have been poured in upon Mr. C. E. Wince, the indefatigable Hon. Secretary, and his many helpers. Over sixty tables were occupied. The refreshments and the exceptionally handsome prizes were given by local residents, and this was a much appreciated and helpful factor. Mrs. Cunningham Park, in her usual gracious manner, presented the prizes to the following:— Ladies: 1, Mrs. Lintott; 2, Mrs. Haynes; 3. Mrs. K. Deacon; 4, Mr. S. Glew (playing as lady); 5, Mrs. Terry; 6, Miss Mitchell; 7, Miss Wyatt; 8, Miss Davis; 9, Mrs. Tucker; highest first half, Mrs. Merritt; highest second half Mrs. Brooker ; hidden number Miss Owen ; travelling prize Mrs. Chapman; highest number of sixes Miss Jinman; highest number of fives Miss Winn; marked score card Mrs. D. Bannor; highest score in one game Mrs. White; and booby Mrs. Jones. Gentlemen: 1, Mr. Richards; 2. Mr. H. Day; 3. Mr. R F. Humphreys, senr; 4, Mr. R. Hill; 5, Mr Downer; 6, Mr. T. Male; 7, Mr. Pattison; 9. Mr. Tupper; 9. Mr. Spickernell; highest first half, Dr. Park; highest second half, Mr. R. F. Humphrys; hidden number, Mr. Barrett; travelling prize, Dr. Barford; highest number of sixes, Mr. N. Smith; highest number of fives, Bishop Twitchell; marked score card. Mr. Fallick; highest score in one game, Mr. W. Laurence; and booby, Mr. Prior. General prizes: Lucky ticket. Mr. J. Arnell-Smith lucky chairs, 1, Miss Phipps. 2. Mr. Pennycord, 3, Mr. Davis. 4, Mrs. Marris, 5. Miss Wright, and 6, Mr. K. Maidment.
