Selsey Pavilion Archives: 1920-1929
Orchestral Concert. On Saturday evening the first of a series of popular orchestral concerts was given in the Pavilion by the recently formed Selsey (Amateur) Orchestra, specially augmented for the occasion. The concert was well attended by an appreciative audience, and the varied programme of music presented met with general approbation. Special attractions were Miss Ursula Hughes, the leading lady from "The Street Singer" company who delighted the audience with song and dance, and was repeatedly encored, and Miss A. Gwynne, whose excellent rendering of her two violin solos necessitated an encore in each case. The following is the programme: March, "Colonel Bogey" overture, "Merry Wives of Windsor"; cornet solos, "If I Forget" and "The Heart of the Sea," Mr. C. E. Vince; gavotte, "Mignon"; glees, "Lovely Night" and "The Goslings," Mrs. W. Moore, Mrs. Buxton-Knight. Mr. F. F. Glennie, Lieut.-Col. W. G, Moore; violin solo, "Liebesfreund," Miss A. Gwynne; humoresque, “A Musical Switch song, Heart’s Desire" (“The Street Singer"), Miss Ursula Hughes; suite, part I, No. I, “Ballet Egyptien”, intermezzo, “Cavalleria Rusticana”; glees, "Lullaby of Life” and "The Vikings"; incidental music.
