PAVILION, SELSEY. JOHN WAYNE heads the 22 star cast of "THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY," a Cinema Scope production of Ernest Gann 's best-seller. The story takes place within a period of 12 hours. The crew and passengers are introduced as they prepare to board a plane in Honolulu. Halfway through the flight an emergency arises which unmasks the emotions and true characters of the travellers. Members of the cast include Claire Trevor, Laraine Day, Robert Stack, Jan Sterling, Phil Harris, Robert Newton and David Brian. The film also introduces to the screen newcomers Doe Avedon, Karen Sharpe and John Smith. Jane Wyman and Charlton Heston star in "LUCY GALLANT." a love story set in a booming Texas oil town. The train taking Lucy Gallant from New York is held up at a Texas wayside station owing to a flood on the line. Lucy Is seen through the window by Casey Cole. owner of a 2,000-acre cattle ranch. With him it is love at first sight. He is only too happy to escort Lucy to New City. the nearest town for her 24- hour wait. Lucy likes New City, a quiet little place, now being rapidly transformed into a booming oil town. Lucy notices that although the town is wealthy, the women are all dowdily dressed. She decides to set up shop and talks Charley Madden, the town banker, into lending her money to buy the Red Derrick night club run by "Lady Macbeth". "THE FAR COUNTRY " provides James Stewart with another of the Western roles which suit him so well. He plays the part of one of the silent breed of Westerners who sets out to drive a herd of cattle from Wyoming to the Dawson gold-fields.
