WHIST DRIVE. A whist drive was held in the Pavilion on Thursday last week, in aid of the funds of the Men’s Institute. There was a moderate attendance, 30 tables being in use. Mr Alan Kite acted as MC. Prizes were presented by Mrs Ponder to the following: Ladies: 1 Mrs. Kennett; 2, Mrs. Godel; 3, Mrs. Chambers; 4, Mrs. Dewey; highest halves, Mrs. Merritt and Mrs. White; travelling prize, Mrs. Maidment consolation prize. Mrs. Harding. Gentlemen: 1. Mr. Blackman, 2, Mr. E. Terry, 3, Mr. Hayward; Mr. West; highest halves, Mr. Hall and Mr. Maidment: travelling prize, Mr H. Harding; consolation, Mr. Godel. At the conclusion, Dr. Barford thanked the donors of prizes and refreshments, and spoke of the urgent necessity for an increased membership of the Institute.
